Multi Systemic Therapy (MST)

MST is an intensive family and community-based intervention for children and young people aged 11-17, where young people are at risk of out of home placement in either care or custody due to their offending or having severe behaviour problems.

The key goals of MST are to break the cycle of anti-social behaviours by keeping young people safely at home, in school, and out of trouble.

FPM and in particular the founding employees, provided MST in several settings in Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Peterborough, Essex and London either as direct providers or as programme managers. The first team in England was established by the founders in Cambridgeshire and then new adaptations were introduced for substance abuse, problem sexual behaviour, child abuse and neglect and also for young people returning from residential care to foster care.

It is hoped that FPM may return to the provision of MST again in the future as we have good experience of the model and understand the complexities of both implementation and the programme management of it.
